Capturing quintessential Australian style with Kerrie-Ann Jones

With panoramic views of the iconic Sydney skyline, the penthouse of the Norfolk Apartments in Kurraba Point is an enviable location. Sydney Harbour laps at the doorstep of the building offering close proximity to ferries and, of course, that priceless view.
With the addition of a carefully curated furniture selection from the KING Collection, Style Director Kerrie-Ann Jones has captured the quintessential Australian living and style.
“Australian style is embracing the indoor outdoor lifestyle,” she explains. “It’s all about creating a casual setting with luxury finishes.”
A stylist, presenter, podcaster and former magazine editor, Kerrie-Ann is celebrated for her impeccable style and ability to effortlessly mix textures within a neutral colour palette. She explains the styling of the luxury harbourside apartment and how she has created warmth through the interior choices.
Located on Sydney’s sought-after Kurraba Point waterfront, this is luxury harbourside living at its finest.

Layers of texture
The concept for Kerrie-Ann’s styling was built around texture. The apartment has a lot of shiny surfaces, so layers of texture help to add warmth and personality to the space.
“The different KING furniture pieces, such as the Fleur Sofa in the living room and the Jasper Bed in the main bedroom, added volumes of texture,” she says. “Then I used sculptural pieces, books and artwork to make it feel more personal.
Throughout the apartment, there is a mix of seating and surfaces. Kerrie-Ann explains that this layering is for functional purposes and also to work with the spectacular view.
“In the living room, I chose the Oliver Tub Chair, which makes a great statement piece. Then I used the Crescent Ottomans, which add a sculptural element to the space. They were placed in front of the window as not to disrupt the view of the Harbour Bridge and to add another layer to the space.”
For a simple dining table styling tip to introduce texture, Kerrie-Ann suggests an oversized branch of blossoms of greenery.
“It adds beautiful drama to the space and creates a focal point for the room. You might then add one or two other styling pieces on the dining table to create a little vignette in that space.”

A touch of colour
Working with a neutral colour palette, Kerrie-Ann has added personality through artwork, soft furnishing and styling pieces. With rusty tones and mustard touches throughout, she has played with subtle nuances of colour to contrast with the layers of textures.
“In the living space, the Issho Coffee Table in American Walnut helps to add warmth and depth,” she says. “This acts as an anchor for the room, drawing the elements together.”
Within each room – both inside and out – the mood and function of the space are reflected in the colours. On the upstairs balcony, the neutral shade of the Jasper Outdoor Sofa helps to create the feel of a sanctuary without detracting from the view behind. In the bedroom, Kerrie-Ann has used classic white blossoms and orchids on the bedside tables to bring the neutral bed linen to life.
One of the standout features of the apartment styling is the artwork that hangs from the walls. Kerrie-Ann says that colour, size and scale are all considerations when choosing the perfect artwork for a space.
“It depends on the project but most often I will choose the furniture before the artwork. Then I consider what art the space will need. I think about the colour palette I want to bring into the space but also the energy I want to create.”
“It’s also important to make sure the proportions of the artwork are right. More often than not, you can get away with an oversized artwork but not with an undersized one.”

Build from a base
In every room, Kerrie-Ann started with a base and built from there. In the bedroom, that was the Bellaire Bed. Keeping with a neutral colour palette, she then built the room around the bed.
“The bed linen is a natural colour and I used a striped bed sheet,” she says. “I wanted to add artwork on the walls but something that fit in with the neutral tones in the room, not something too loud.
“Then I moved to the Serenade Bedside Tables. The floral arrangements add a bit of life to the room and the timber base on the lamps adds warmth.”
In the corner of the bedroom, Kerrie-Ann has also created a reading nook using the Seymour Low Fixed Chair.
“If a bedroom has enough space, I always like to create a little reading nook,” she says. “In this room, the placement of the armchair really makes the most of the beautiful harbour view.”
The result is a modern and intimate room that is a sanctuary away from the rest of the home.

Indoor/outdoor living
The beauty of the Kurraba Point apartment is how the floor to ceiling windows invite the outdoors in with the eyes drawn to the sweeping, uninterrupted views. And that’s what Australian living so perfectly balances, the seamless transition between the sanctuary of the home and the beauty of the natural landscape.
The transition from indoors to out was also front of mind for Kerrie-Ann in her styling.
“Like using a colour palette when styling indoors, the same is true for the outdoors,” she explains. “You can use the same colours as the room that the garden flows from.”
“In this apartment, the master bedroom leads out into a lovely garden area. As you step out from the bedroom to the garden, I wanted this to be a really comfortable and relaxing area. It’s a space where you could just lay in the sun with a book overlooking the view. The Delta Outdoor Circle is the perfect, relaxing piece of furniture that really lends itself to the indoor outdoor lifestyle.”
